Since the conclusion of "Martian Successor Nadesico," two years have elapsed, during which time Akito and Yurika disappeared. The Jovians and Earthlings have united in an alliance, with Ruri now serving as captain of Nadesico B. As a result of the growing popularity of Boson Jumping, an extensive transportation network has been established, known as the Hisago Plan, which utilizes Chulip portals to unravel the enigmas surrounding Bose particles and their capabilities. If this knowledge were to fall into malevolent hands, it could spell catastrophe. And indeed, a Martian splinter group has launched an attack, leaving the United Forces utterly confounded and in dire need of assistance. As such, the former crew of Nadesico is called upon for a special, unsanctioned mission-to save humanity from impending doom. Will this motley assortment of individuals be able to rise to the occasion? Who will ultimately claim possession of Boson technology? And what became of Akito and Yurika?

The series won the 1998 Animage's Anime Grand Prix Award. It also won the 1999 Seiun Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
