Two years have passed since the conclusion of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Konohagakure has been at peace and harmony until Sixth Hokage Kakashi Hatake notices that the moon is rapidly approaching Earth, posing a threat to planetary destruction. During this crisis, Konoha is invaded by a new evil, Toneri Oosutuski, who abducts Hinata Hyuugas little sister Hanabi. In an attempt to rescue her, Kakashi sends a skilled ninja team consisting of Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, Shikamaru Nara, Sai, and Hinata on a mission. However, the team faces numerous obstacles that hinder their progress. As a result, their efforts are thwarted. The abduction of Hanabi puts a strain on the relationships between the team members. With the world at stake, they must act quickly to ensure the safety of their planet. Meanwhile, as the battle rages on, Naruto is motivated by something greater than he has ever imagined - love.

The events in the film The Last: Naruto the Movie take place chronologically between chapters 699 and 700 of the original manga. It is the tenth animated film in the Naruto series, and was made to commemorate the manga’s 15th anniversary.
