On a gloomy morning in Tokyo, Takao Akizuki, an aspiring shoemaker, decides to miss class to draw shoe designs in a stunning garden. It's there that he encounters Yukari Yukino, a captivating yet enigmatic individual, for the first time. Despite their initial differences, they bond over their shared love of shoes and begin meeting regularly during the rainy season. Through these interactions, Takao offers to create new footwear for Yukari, which helps them both cope with the burdens weighing on their hearts. However, as the end of the wet weather draws near, their relationship will face challenges that test their resolve.
In 2013, Kotonoha no Niwa won the Kobe Theatrical Film Award, shared the Satoshi Kon Award for Achievement in Animation with Berserk: Ougon Jidaihen III - Kourin. In 2014, the movie won the AniMovie Award for best feature film.
