In the aftermath of World War II, Shikotan Island became part of Sakhalin Oblast. Despite the ongoing conflict and historical tensions in this remote region, children from two different countries began to form friendships, striving to overcome language barriers. This story is based on real events that took place on August 15th when we learned about our defeat in the war. It was only then that we realized the significance of the unfamiliar soldiers who had arrived on our island. That's how I first met Tanya.
