Haruka Takayama and Yuu Sonoda have been best friends since middle school and plan on attending Misato West High School together. However, despite being assigned to the same class, fate has them seated opposite each other in their classroom. To make matters worse, their school will shut down in three years, making them the final intake of first-year students. Despite these challenges, Haruka is determined to stick with Yuu and create many unforgettable memories together.
On the other hand, Yuus easygoing nature quickly captures the attention of their female classmates, causing Haruka to feel jealous. In an attempt to console her, Yuu shares a deep, affectionate kiss with Haruka in an empty classroom. This act strengthens their bond as "special friends," revealing a new aspect of their unique friendship while also introducing new conflicts.
Sakura Trick first premiered in Winter 2014 and was simulcast by Crunchyroll in the USA and Canada. It was later licensed for a North American home video release by Sentai Filmworks.
