The story of Seireitsukai no Blade Dance unfolds at Areishia Spirit Academy, a renowned institution where young women receive training in elementalism and attempt to establish slave contracts with spirits. This practice is exclusive to females, but that has now changed due to the arrival of Kamito Kazehaya, who is the first man in 1000 years capable of forming such a contract. He "borrowed" this ability from Claire Rouge, a shrine princess. The headmaster, Greyworth, has summoned him to enroll and participate in an upcoming tournament that will take place two months hence. Claire demands that Kamito become her contracted spirit, which poses a challenge for his survival until the tournament begins.
