In 2199 AD, Yamato attempted to depart from the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy after receiving a "Cosmo Reverse System" at Iscandar. However, upon reaching the edge of the cloud, it encountered an unknown group known as Gatlantis. The leader of this force was Goran Dagaamu of Thunder, who demanded that Yamato be handed over to him. Despite trying to escape, Yamato was attacked by a powerful weapon called the Flame Direct Attack Cannon and ended up getting lost in an irregularly colored dimension. In response, the crew turned off the ship's engine and explored a mysterious planet. Upon landing, they discovered a ship that did not belong there. Dagaamu pursued Yamato's warp traces and also arrived at the same strange space. It was later revealed that the planet on which Yamato landed was what Dagaamu had been searching for all along.
