In the past, Toue Inc., a powerful company, bought Midorijima Island in Japan with plans to construct Platinum Jail-an extravagant utopia for its wealthy inhabitants. The original islanders were relocated to the Old Residential District, and after the completion of Platinum Jail, they were abandoned entirely. Two popular games on the island are Rib and Rhyme. Rib is an old-fashioned game where gangs fight over territory, while Rhyme uses advanced technology for participants to battle in a virtual reality. To play Rhyme, you need an "All-Mate," which is typically an AI that resembles a pet, and the match must be mediated by an "Usui." Aoba Seragaki, who lives with his grandmother and All-Mate Ren, has no interest in playing either game. However, after being forced to participate in a dangerous Rhyme match and hearing rumors about missing Rib players, all of Aoba's hopes for a peaceful life are shattered.
