In the distant future, warfare has evolved with massive spherical tanks known as "Objects" becoming dominant on the battlefield. These impenetrable tanks are armed with devastating firepower and ensure victory by their mere presence. However, this new form of warfare is about to be disrupted. Qwenthur Barbotage, a student studying Object Design, and Havia Winchell, a radar analyst from a noble family, serve in the 37th Mobile Maintenance Battalion of the Legitimate Kingdoms. During a battle, they find themselves facing an enemy Object with only their infantry strength to defend them. As they struggle to survive, hope emerges, and the perception of Objects is forever changed.
The story follows Qwenthur, Havia, Milinda Brantini (the Baby Magnum's pilot), Frolaytia Capistrano (their commanding officer), and their journey around the world fighting battles against seemingly invincible Objects. They must use all their intelligence and bravery to overcome these unbeatable foes.
Several characters from Heavy Object are slated to appear in the sequel to the arcade fighting game Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax.
