On an ordinary day at middle school, Yoshio Kobayashi wakes up in class to a shocking discovery - his teacher has been brutally murdered and he happens to be holding the murder weapon. Despite being initially horrified, Yoshio is secretly excited about this opportunity to prove his innocence. His friend Souji Hashiba becomes an accomplice and together they are determined to clear Yoshios name. Meanwhile, high school detective Kogorou Akechi arrives at the crime scene to investigate and when he meets the guilty party, a mutual interest sparks between them. Inspired by this encounter, Yoshio dreams of becoming Akechis assistant in solving crimes. Akechi is intrigued by the young mans enthusiasm and decides to put him through a series of challenges to see if he is capable of assisting him in his detective work. Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace (lit. Strange Tales of Rampo: Game of Laplace) is inspired by the works of author Edogawa Rampo (a pseudonym for Tarou Hirai) and commemorates the 50th anniversary of his death in 1965.He was a Japanese author and critic who played a major role in the development of Japanese mystery fiction.
