In the near future, humans have discovered a new dimension known as dimension w and an infinite source of energy within it. to harness this power, advanced "coils" are developed that link to and use the energy from dimension w. however, by 2071, the new tesla energy corporation has become the dominant player in the energy industry with coils, leading to illegal distribution of unofficial coils on the market. kyouma mabuchi is an ex-soldier who distrusts all coil technology and drives a gas-powered car. he becomes a "collector," hunting down illegal coils for money. when he meets mira yurizaki, an android with a connection to the creator of coils, they join forces to uncover the secrets of dimension w.

Dimension W was first announced to be in production at Anime Expo 2015 in Los Angeles. Studio 3Hz is responsible for animation production, while the studio Orange is responsible for CG production. North American distributor FUNimation Entertainment is also a member of the production committee.
