In 2205, a skilled sage named Saniwa has the power to bring life to inanimate objects. However, an evil force is plotting to travel back in time and alter history's course. The only ones who can stop them are Saniwa and their strongest animations - historical Japanese swords, manifesting as handsome young men. Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru follows Yamatonokami Yasusada, Souji Okitas favorite uchigatana, on his first day at the Saniwas citadel. Along with his friend Kashuu Kiyomitsu, he engages in daily activities and has fun with fellow sword warriors. Despite their playful nature, they remain ready to defend history whenever called upon by the government.
