Daisuke Higashida is a first-year student at Higashizaka High School who leads a tranquil life despite being unhappy with his family, who never laugh and exhaust him. However, when his father's company goes bankrupt, he can no longer afford to pay for allowances, cellphone bills, and commuting tickets. When his father instructs him to find a part-time job, Daisuke decides to work at a nearby restaurant rather than travel 15 kilometers to school by bicycle.
