In a land called Kikyougahara, located in Shin Province, there is a girl named Hana. She's a kind-hearted individual who always thinks about her family, especially her great-grandmother Chiyo, whom she lovingly refers to as "Granny." One day, an entertainment troupe called the Natsugawa Genzaemon Troupe passes through the area and is warmly welcomed by the villagers. After completing their performance and receiving praise from the audience, the troupe's leader, Genbanojou, discovers that he has a weakness for "oyaki," a type of Japanese snack. In his excitement over this delicious food, he transforms into a fox. It turns out that Genbanojou and his companions O-Natsu and Shinzaemon are all foxes who have taken on human forms. Realizing the importance of keeping their secret, Genbanojou quickly negotiates with Hana, offering her one wish in exchange for maintaining confidentiality. She wishes to allow Granny to see the cherry blossoms, a beautiful sight that she has always wanted to witness.
Genbanojou is one of the four anime works from the "2017 Young Animator Training Project."
