In 1939, Germany invaded a neighboring country, which led Europe into a devastating war. During this time, Germany targeted the small alpine country of Elystadt. Given its superior military and earlier successes, it was expected that Germany would conquer Elystadt easily. However, things took a turn when German soldiers captured Princess Ortfiné "Finé" Fredericka von Eylstadt as she traveled to a crucial meeting with Britannia. Meanwhile, a Germanian transport mission failed, allowing Izetta, the last witch alive, to escape. Recognizing Princess Finé from her childhood, Izetta rescued her using her magical abilities. Now reunited with the princess, Izetta vowed to protect Elystadt from Germany. With Izetta on their side and the last surviving witch in their arsenal, Elystadt hoped to turn the tide against the imperialist war giant.
