The standard Kochikame plot revolves around Ryo-san devising a lucrative plan by introducing an innovative gadget or exploiting a popular trend, experiencing significant success, seeking Nakagawas assistance when things deteriorate, and ultimately losing everything as the fad wanes or spirals out of control. Despite being comedic in nature, much of the humor stems from the incongruity between ordinary characters and their extraordinary circumstances (such as Nakagawas wealth, Marias allure, and everyone's lack of police work), which are never fully explained or justified.
