Asta and Yuno were left at the same church on the same day as infants. As they grew up together, they learned about the "Wizard King" - a title given to the strongest mage in the kingdom. They made a pact that they would compete against each other for the position of the next Wizard King. However, as they matured, it became clear how differently they were gifted. While Yuno could harness magic with incredible power and precision, Asta was unable to use magic at all and struggled in vain to awaken his abilities by training physically. At fifteen years old, Yuno received a magnificent Grimoire adorned with a four-leaf clover, while Asta got nothing. Not long after, Yuno was attacked by someone named Lebuty, whose main objective was to obtain Yuno's Grimoire. Despite being outmatched, Asta fought bravely but ultimately lost hope and felt defeated. However, he found the strength to continue when he heard Yuno's voice. Fueled by his emotions in a fit of rage, Asta received a five-leaf clover Grimoire, also known as the "Black Clover," which granted him enough power to defeat Lebuty. A few days later, Asta and Yuno set out on their journey together, both determined to achieve their goal of becoming the Wizard King.

The series broadcast went on hiatus following the release of episode 132 on April 28, 2020. Beginning May 5, the series was rebroadcast from its first episode until further notice. The series continued its broadcast from episode 133 on July 7th, 2020.
