Kouta Hasegawa is an average high school student who enjoys his Pompompurin stuffed animal, which resembles a Golden Retriever and was given to him by his grandmother when he was young. However, after being ridiculed by other students for liking Sanrio characters, Kouta became ashamed of his attachment to the toy.
Despite this setback, Kouta's life took an unexpected turn when he met several classmates who also shared a love for Sanrio characters: Yuu Mizuno, a flamboyant boy with a large following among girls; Shunsuke Yoshino, a member of the soccer team; Ryou Nishimiya, an underclassman working as a library assistant; and Seiichirou Minamoto, the student council president.
Together, these new friends encouraged Kouta to embrace his love for Sanrio characters without shame. They even came up with a plan to create a play for the school cultural festival in an effort to make their ordinary lives more exciting. Through this experience, Kouta learned that it's okay to be different and that having passions can bring people together.
