In ancient times, Earth was annihilated by extraterrestrial beings called the Gauna. Remnants of humanity escaped into space aboard the massive spacecraft Sidonia. For centuries, Sidonia wandered through space until it encountered the Gauna once more after a century of peace. With the help of Tsumugi Shiraui, a human-Gauna hybrid, and Nagate Tanikaze, an expert Guardian mech pilot, humanity managed to repel the attack. However, peace did not last long. Ten years later, Sidonia experienced peaceful days, during which Tsumugi began to develop feelings for Nagate, who had become a hero of the people. Despite this brief respite, Captain Kobayashi knew that as long as the Gauna remained a threat, peace could not be sustained. As the end drew near, the crew prepared for a final battle that would determine the fate of humanity's last survivors. Will they be able to protect those they love?

The film will feature contents different from the original manga by Tsutomu Nihei with a new story. Nihei is supervising the film.
