An American diplomat and his family relocate to an ancient castle where they discover that Simon, a man who has been tormented for over three centuries as a result of a grave transgression he committed, resides within its walls. Despite the gravity of this revelation, the Americans remain unperturbed by the situation. The father presents the spirit with a token of appreciation, while the boys engage in boisterous pillow fights and play pranks on him. Virginia, meanwhile, displays compassion and understanding towards Simon, much to his astonishment, as he is accustomed to being haunted and despised by others.
