In the story of princess tutu, ahiru, who appears to be clumsy but has magical abilities, is an unlikely protagonist. despite her duck-like appearance, she possesses powers like talking cats and crocodiles in her town. after being transformed into a human girl by drosselmeyer, ahiru learns about her purpose as princess tutu, who can transform into a beautiful ballet dancer using an egg-shaped pendant. her mission is to collect the lost shards of her prince's heart, which he had broken in order to imprison an evil raven for eternity. the fate of this fairy tale rests on the actions and beliefs of its characters, ultimately leading to a "happily ever after" or not.
Princess Tutu aired in two parts. The first part included 13 25-minute episodes, while the second part consisted of 24 12-minute episodes with a 25-minute final episode for a total of 26 episodes.
