17-year-old otaku Hajime Nagumo's normal life is disrupted when he and his classmates are summoned to a fantasy world where they must save mankind. Although his classmates possess impressive abilities in combat, Hajime is ridiculed for having only an insignificant transmutation skill that lacks any offensive power. During their expedition through the Great Orcus Labyrinth, one of Hajime's classmates betrays him, causing him to fall into a deep abyss. Despite surviving the fall, Hajime encounters dangerous creatures and misfortunes that push him towards a dark reality. Driven by his desire for survival and return home, he resolves to fight for it. Along his journey, he meets an imprisoned vampire named Yue who also seeks escape from the labyrinth. As they travel together, Hajime transforms into one of the strongest beings in the world while Yue becomes a valuable companion on his quest.
Based on the light novel series written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki. The series is published by Shousetsuka ni Narou in June 2015 and has been translated to English by J-Novel Club and Seven Seas Entertainment.
