The novel Summer Pockets takes place on Torishirojima, an isolated rural island in Japan's Seto Inland Sea with around 2,000 residents. Hairi Takahara, the protagonist, grew up in an urban environment but comes to the island after a negative event and uses his grandmother's estate sale as an excuse. While there, he meets four girls: Shiroha Naruse, who forgot her summer vacation; Ao Sorakado, searching for legends on the island; Kamome Kushima, looking for a pirate ship; and Tsumugi Wenders, trying to discover herself.
