Subaru Mikazuki is a 23-year-old mystery novel author who is introverted and shy. He prefers staying at home to interacting with others, which has been exacerbated by the tragic death of his parents many years ago. While paying tribute to his parents at their grave, he encounters a small grey and white cat named Haru, whom he takes home. Although Subaru has never taken care of anyone else before, Haru is grateful for the food and attention she receives from him. However, Subaru struggles with taking care of himself, which may raise concerns about his ability to take care of Haru.
