Spontaneous Human Combustion is a phenomenon where ordinary people turn into violent, flaming creatures known as Infernals. These first-generation Infernals are now referred to as pyrokinetics-people with the ability to control their flames while remaining human. The Tokyo Armed Forces, Fire Defense Agency, and Holy Church of Sol formed the Special Fire Force to combat the Infernal threat and discover its cause. Shinra Kusakabe, a young third-generation pyrokinetic nicknamed Devils Footprints due to his explosive ability to ignite his feet at will, joins Company 8 of the Special Fire Force. His goal is to become a hero who saves lives threatened by flame terror. However, Shinra faces numerous challenges within and outside the Fire Force, including feuding brigades, increasing abnormal Infernal sightings in Tokyo, and a shadowy group claiming to have answers about the fire that killed his family 12 years ago. Despite these obstacles, Shinra strives to uncover the truth behind the burning mysteries that have kept him in the dark.
