Subaru hasegawa had a dream of becoming one of the greatest basketball superstars, but his plans were disrupted when his school's team stopped activities for a year. feeling shocked by this news, he decided to stop being involved in basketball. however, his aunt invited him to coach the keishin academy girls' basketball team and teach them how to play the sport. he met six elementary school students: tomoka minato, maho misawa, airi kashii, hinata hakamada, saki nagatsuki, and began training them with one goal in mind - defeating all strong opponents on their way. the anime "ro-kyu-bu!" follows the journey of these five girls and their coach as they play basketball in a cute style.

The series was simulcast on The Anime Network. Sentai Filmworks had planned a home video release, but in June 2012 it was announced that the production committee for the series would be buying back the home video rights for every region outside of Asia.
