Puka Puka Juju is one of four anime projects that received 38 million yen (approximately US$470,000) from the "2011 Young Animator Training Project." Similar to 2010, the animation labor group received 214.5 million yen (US$2.65 million) from Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs and distributed most of it to studios that trained young animators on-the-job.
Pukapuka Juju is one of the four anime works that received funding from the 2011 Young Animator Training Project, titled Anime Mirai 2012. The anime short shared the Grand Prize in the Feature Films category of the 17th Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival in 2013, alongside the project's other shorts.
