Texhnolyze takes place in an underground city known as Lux, which was created by humans but has deteriorated due to lack of maintenance and repair. Citizens refer to their home as "The City" and treat it as if it possesses its own mind and will. Three factions fight for control over Lux: Organo, a group that collaborates with the criminal underworld, Salvation Union, a populist movement, and Racan, a collection of young individuals who use Texhnolyze for personal gain. Ichise was an orphan who became a prize fighter in Lux. During a fight promotion, he lost his arm and leg but was saved by Eriko Kamata, a scientist who used him as a test subject for her new Texhnolyze design. With these powerful limbs, Ichise worked for Oonishi, the leader of Organo, until he met Ran, a young girl with the ability to see possible futures. Together, they realized that Lux was on the brink of war and collapse and that they might be the only ones who could save it.
Texhnolyze was released on DVD in six volumes by Geneon Entertainment Inc. from April 6, 2004 to February 22, 2005. Funimation Entertainment later republished the series in a complete DVD collection on August 28, 2012.
