King Kong / Tom Of Thumb, Tom of T.H.U.M.B.

Professor Bond and his son discover a giant ape on an island in the Java Sea while conducting research. The ape, named Kong, becomes their friend and they fight together to protect him from Dr. Who, who has evil intentions towards the ape. Each episode combines a King Kong story with a Tom of T.H.U.M.B., which is a humorous cartoon about a secret agent and his oriental sidekick. The show was created by MORI Yasuji and KANISHI Takao, who were either character designers or animation directors for the Tom of T.H.U.M.B. segment. This was the first Japanese-animated TV series made specifically for American audiences. According to American sources, Rankin-Bass commissioned the work from Videocraft International, while Japanese sources claim it was produced by Videocraft/Toei Doga.
