During the edo era, japan faced an unprecedented crisis due to foreign ships known as kurofune. however, a legendary robot named onigami, which has been around since ancient times, managed to repel these ships and establish japan's exclusion of outsiders. the story takes place in japan during the meiji restoration in 1868, but with one major difference: the protagonist claims to be the greatest man in the world because he is a virgin.

In 2016, concept creator Kazuya Sasahara launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a virtual reality 3DCG-animated reboot of Fuuun Ishin Dai☆Shogun. The project aimed to create a one-minute 360° panorama VR movie. However, the campaign was not successful, failing to raise its US$200,000 goal.
