Even after death, individuals must still deal with paperwork and criminals. Tsuzuki Asato is a 26-year-old shinigami who has been tasked with ensuring that the deceased remain dead and reside in their proper realms. Despite having held this job for over 70 years, Tsuzuki finds himself in the worst division with poor pay. Additionally, he struggles to maintain relationships as shinigami work in pairs. However, it seems that Tsuzuki has recently found a partner who will stick around: Kurosaki Hisoka, a stubborn, smart-mouthed, serious, and defensive 16-year-old. Together, they investigate cases that bring them closer to uncovering the conspiracies of serial killer Dr. Muraki Kazutaka. As their relationship grows stronger, Tsuzuki must confront his own dark past, which continues to haunt him and prevent him from finding true peace.
