The mysterious creatures known as "Mushi" are alien to natural laws and only known to some people who fear them. A long time ago, a powerful Mushi threatened to destroy all life, but the Minai clan of Mushishi stopped it. Now, Tanyuu Karibusa from the Karibusa family has given the Mushishi Ginko a job to oversee Kumado Minai's investigation into an abandoned village where dead things come back to life as plants. Though the Minai clan are known for being ruthless among Mushishi, they also have a dull character with little appreciation for beauty or sentiment. Tanyuu believes there is more to this trend than meets the eye. Ginko will follow Kumado into a "Path of Thorns," where rare and deadly varieties of Mushi live and the secret nature of the Minai clan's resolve to their ancient task is revealed.
