In this anime, Lupin serves as the main character. The story takes place in Italy and San Marino. Prior to its release in Japan, it was initially shown in Italy. Lupin III fans will recognize that the protagonist's attire has changed from green (as seen in the first series, some OVAs, second series, films, and television specials) to red (second series, films, and TV specials), pink (third series), and now blue (current series).

Lupin III (2015) first aired in Italy in August of 2015, more than a month before airing in Japan.
