In elementary school, Shouya Ishida struggled with boredom and would engage in cruel behaviors as a way to pass time. When the deaf student Shouko Nishimiya joined his class, he and his peers began to bully her for fun. However, after her mother notified the school of their actions, Shouya was singled out and blamed for everything that happened to Shouko. With Shouko transferring away from the school, Shouya was left alone and ostracized by his classmates. Despite this, he remained heartbroken over his past mistakes throughout middle school while teachers turned a blind eye. Now in high school, three years later, Shouya is still plagued by guilt over his actions as a child. Driven by sincere regret, he embarks on a journey of redemption to reunite with Shouko and make amends for his past wrongdoings. Koe no Katachi is an emotional story that follows Shouyas quest to right the wrongs of his youth and find forgiveness from those he has hurt.
