Ushio aotsuki is a middle school student who lives with his father, an eccentric temple priest. despite his father's warnings about otherworldly monsters known as youkai, ushio goes about life without much concern for them. however, when he discovers a menacing youkai impaled by the fabled beast spear in the basement of the temple while tending to it, he is hesitant to trust the creature's words and refuses to release him from his five-hundred year seal.
but when a sudden youkai outbreak puts ushio's friends and home in danger, he has no choice but to rely on tora, the beast in question, as his only insurance against getting out of hand. this marks the beginning of an unlikely journey for ushio and tora into the depths of the spiritual realm. with the legendary beast spear in his possession, ushio will discover just how real and threatening the world of supernatural can be.
