Anita King, Maggie Mui, and Michelle Cheung are known as the Paper Sisters. They run the Three Sisters Detective Agency in Hong Kong which specializes in solving cases related to books. Nenene Sumiregawa, a Japanese novelist struggling with writer's block after her friend Yomiko Readman disappeared, hires them as local guides for her book signing event in Japan. The Paper Sisters are all Paper Masters, individuals with the ability to control paper, and they use their powers to protect Nenene from dangerous terrorists targeting her during the event. Afterwards, they remain as her bodyguards to safeguard her from further harm. This is a dream come true for book-loving sisters Maggie and Michelle, but young Anita cannot stand books despite having paper mastery skills. The trio must adapt to their new life in Japan while continuing their detective work under the mysterious organization Dokusensha. As they get to know Nenene better, they discover a link between her, Yomiko's disappearance, and the enigmatic books that Dokusensha sends them to investigate. What started as a simple job quickly turns into a larger case than they have ever encountered before. Are these girls truly willing to risk their lives for literature?
