The reserved main character is a bookworm who feels disconnected from the world around him. He has no interest in other people and believes that nobody cares about him either. His story begins when he comes across a handwritten diary titled "Living with Dying." It belongs to his popular, outgoing classmate Sakura Yamauchi, who reveals she is suffering from pancreatic cancer and only has limited time left. Her family knows of her illness but not even her closest friends are aware. Despite this news, the protagonist remains unmoved, but as he spends more time with Sakura, their relationship deepens. Their contrasting personalities lead to a stronger connection between them, as they make choices that impact each other's lives. Sakuras carefree attitude and unpredictability challenge the protagonists monotonous existence, causing him to open his heart and embrace the true meaning of living.
