At the request of Admiral Yang Wen-li, Commander Baghdash announces on television that the National Salvation Military Council has seized power with the backing of the Galactic Empire. Although there is no concrete evidence, this declaration causes former Rear Admiral Andrew Lynch to confess his role in causing discord within the Free Planets Alliance. This leads to a deadly confrontation between Lynch and Admiral Dwight Greenhill. Meanwhile in the Galactic Empire, footage of Duke Otto von Braunschweig's nuclear attack on Westerland results in the dissolution of the Lippstadt League. Marquis Reinhard von Lohengramm's decision to allow the massacre for personal gain creates tension with High Admiral Siegfried Kircheis, leading to their eventual victory. However, Reinhard is now facing personal struggles as he grapples with his leadership responsibilities and personal shortcomings. Despite this, both sides in the civil wars in both the Alliance and Empire are coming close to ending their conflicts. However, they will never regain what they have lost. Yang Wen-li and Reinhard von Lohengramm find solace in knowing that there is a worthy opponent on the other side of the galaxy - a true equal.
