The film was originally announced alongside Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in 2008 and was slated for a 2015 release, but was delayed several times due to various production issues and the COVID-19 pandemic.The film has been dubbed in 10 languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Latin American Spanish, and Peninsular Spanish.
