The Tendou family, led by patriarch Soun Tendou, operates the Tendou Martial Arts School with daughters Akane, Nabiki, and Kasumi. One day, their lives are disrupted when their father declares that he has promised one of them in marriage to the son of another martial artist in order to preserve their family legacy. When the groom-to-be arrives, the family is surprised to encounter Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma. Ranma has been training in China with his father until a tragic accident transformed them both into girl and giant panda respectively.
