Before the start of the narrative, there was a time when Kaguyama felt uneasy around Haruna due to her presence on the baseball team. He believed that his role as the top pitcher might be endangered because of her presence. Despite wanting to leave, Kaguyama was persuaded by Haruna not to quit after she shared her own background with him.

Ookiku Furikabutte: Kihon no Kihon originally aired only on Japanese TV networks BS-TBS and MBS TV's "Anime Shower" slot on August 19, 2007. The special was released on DVD by Funimation Entertainment on September 29, 2009.
