Alice Sakaguchi has been living next door to her seven-year-old neighbor, Rin, for some time now. Although Rin has often tormented her since she moved in, Alice is forced to babysit him one day. At the end of the day, the two get into a childish argument over Jinpachi, whom they encountered while outside. In order to anger Alice, Rin grabs the crocus that they bought earlier and throws it from the fifteenth-story balcony onto the ground. Alice retaliates by slapping him, causing him to fall off the edge of the balcony. Despite her efforts to catch him, she loses her grip and falls from the fifteen-story balcony of their apartment. Miraculously, Rin survives the fall but lapses into a coma. During his coma, he relives almost all of Shion's memories in an incredibly condensed amount of time.
