Evra, also known as snake boy or snake man, is a character in the cirque du freak series by darren shan. he helps mr. crepsley and darren defeat murlough in book three but suffers permanent injuries when murlough rips scales off his shoulder. despite their age difference, evra becomes one of darren's best friends. however, as time goes on, their bond thins due to the fact that evra ages normally while darren ages at a slower rate. evra was born to normal parents who were horrified by him and left him at an orphanage where he was bullied by other children. he was later sold to a traveling circus where he was abused, locked in a glass tank, and made to feel like an outcast. at the age of eleven, he was rescued by mr. tall and joined the cirque du freak, where he stayed until his death. in book twelve, evra nearly kills steve for revenge but is stopped by mr. tiny. he speaks with an american accent and is shy due to his abusive childhood. several years later, darren returns to find that evra has fallen in love with another freak called merla who has three children, including shancus, whom he named after darren and considered him his godfather despite not being related. tragically, shancus dies from a broken neck caused by steve.
