Misono is a young man from a modest family who enlists at the Imperial Palace in order to repay his family's debts. Initially, his primary motivation is to protect his sister from an unwanted arranged marriage. However, as he gains more insight into the Emperor, Akiko, he develops deep admiration for her. As a result, Misono continues working as a student chamberlain even after reaching the age limit for that position, due to Akikos fondness towards him.
