At first glance, Nomiya appears to fit the stereotype of a delinquent-he has an afro hairstyle, dropped out of high school, and spends time defecating on school steps before leaving. However, as you get to know him better, it becomes clear that he is struggling with deep feelings of guilt over a traffic accident in which he was involved, which left Yamashita Yasumi unable to walk. Despite being an average student, Nomiya was passionate about basketball and felt lost without the opportunity to play on his school team. While taking Yasumi for a walk, he discovers Togawa playing basketball and challenges him to a game. Impressed by Togawa's talent and determination, Nomiya becomes a cheerleader/mascot for the Tigers and develops a close friendship with Togawa. Although he rarely gets to play basketball himself, being around others who do brings him joy and purpose.
Against all odds, his desire to change and positive attitude seem to be rubbing off on his co-workers and acquaintances.
