Azumi was a childhood friend of Togawa's. They seemed to enjoy each other's company during their time together. At that point, Togawa made a promise to tell her "when he beats 11 seconds." Unfortunately, this turned out to be the last race he participated in due to a sarcoma in his leg that prevented him from finishing it. Despite this setback, Azumi remained persistent and continued visiting Togawa even when his father tried to keep them apart. After meeting with Tora, Togawa accepted Azumi's presence and showed her his amputated leg. She surprised him by naming the procedure, indicating that she had done some research on it. As the manager of the Tigers team, Azumi often played the role of peacemaker between Togawa and his teammates due to his temperamental nature. Azumi met Nomiya in driving school where she expressed her desire to get her driver's license so that she could drive Togawa to games and practices. Despite being shy and self-conscious, Azumi could become quite angry (in her thoughts) when Togawa did not acknowledge her efforts in dealing with him.
