Kiriya grew up in a martial arts dojo with three brothers. She discovered manga for the first time in college and became immediately captivated by it, particularly love stories. However, as she read these stories, her excitement would sometimes lead to aggressive behavior using martial arts, which often resulted in damaged walls. Kiriya also had a habit of tossing and turning while sleeping. Despite her reserved demeanor at school, she felt pressured to be admired by her peers and set a positive example for them. After Koushi started treating her as a girl rather than a tomboy and offered his assistance, Kiriya began to develop feelings for him. This caused her to behave more shyly and femininely around him.
