Ryu Kaioh is a strict, disciplined leader who does not tolerate failure. He serves as the head of the temple in Heilong-Jiang, China and mentors Kaioh Retsu. During a test to determine the next Kaioh, he initially denied Retsu Shaorin the title due to his perceived lack of strength and skill. However, after receiving a recommendation from Kaioh Dorian, Ryu eventually allowed Retsu to earn the title.
