Sakura serves as second-in-command on a team responsible for transporting Isurugi to the 801st HQ at the start of the first episode. She owns an elderly dog named Patriot, whom she deeply loves. Sakura is known for her compulsive gambling habits and has won many contests in areas such as flight exams, food competitions, and horse racing. Despite her teammates' fear of her singing voice, Sakura enjoys karaoke. Her talent as a pilot was one of the reasons behind the formation of the 801st squadron, which caused tension among other female pilots who were envious of her skills and success. On the day of her flight exam, Tokaji promised to be there to watch her, but he was distracted by three jealous girls. Konishi proposed to Sakura in his stead, but she expected Tokaji and responded by saying his name, causing Konishi to give her the ring in Tokajis name. Sakura took the ring and has worn it ever since, unaware that it was actually Konishi who had proposed until years later when she discovered this fact. Despite not explicitly stating her feelings for him, it is implied that Sakura harbors strong emotions towards Konishi.
