Oshutoru belonged to a family with a noble title but little wealth or power. As he dreamed of becoming a soldier like his father, he left his hometown and joined the ranks as a common guard. Although he planned on returning home after climbing the military hierarchy, fate had other plans for him. His actions drew the attention of the emperor, leading to his promotion to the position of Royal General of the Right.
